More on first day
I just wanted to add to the post in response to everyone's comments. First of all, she is beautiful, and I never tire of hearing it. It amazes me almost every time I look at her. Also, it really wasn't hard to let her go. We've had a tough year and I was glad for the break. And I was glad that she took her life into her own hands to make a change when I couldn't do it for her. It was necessary and timely, so I was glad. She is brave. Even when she was scared and crying she never said she didn't want to go. She's very unlike me in that way. Her side swept bangs came from being friends with a 13 year old who helps her keep up with trends. She also picked out her own clothes. She and I have such different tastes that I never dare buy anything for her. I took her to Goodwill and she picked out a few new things for school. She is her own person and I'm proud of her and happy I get to be a witness of her life.

It doesn't really surprise me that she decided to go to public school. I think every kid needs some time to themselves, to be even more of their own person. I'm sure she'll really enjoy it.
Well she is doing a fabulous job on keeping up with trends. That's really neat that you allow her to be her own person, I think I might struggle with that, by not wanting her to make choices I wouldn't make.
Yeah I am with Kassie, its so hard to see them make choices you once made that hurt you. That will be a hard one for me. Does that make sense? But at some point you have to just let them be their own person. You are great for doing it and I am glad its working out for everyone.
Wow, my heart kinda hurts for you. I'm nervous about letting Connor go to his first day of school, even though it's just a once-a-week charter. It's funny, I was thinking the other day that, if this year's homeschooling experiment works out long-term, I'd probably let my kids opt-in to public around 5th or 6th grade. I figure by then, they have that strong foundation of who they are, but they can go in to the relatively safe environment of elementary school. I'm curious to see how she likes it!
