The thing that I didn't expect, was Erik's reaction to her. He was very possessive and obsessive. Anytime anyone else wanted to hold her he would flail on the ground and whine until it was his turn again. He took her with him everywhere. The upside was that he took very good care of her and was gentle and responsible. He was offended at first when she wouldn't obey his every command, and even whined a little bit that the dog didn't love him enough. But with Erik, nothing is ever enough. I thought he was smothering her, but one day they went to play at the neighbor's house. Colbie tried to squeeze through the fence to find Erik and stood at the front door waiting for him. They when he came home, she jumped all over him and sat on his lap. So I guess they must of bonded.
It was a good experience, and I think we are ready to get a dog, it's just a matter of finding the right one.

1 thing to remember, puppies don't come that way. I've never had one, I just get older dogs, but training them is a lot of work. I'm excited for you guys to get a dog! I love having dogs.
That's cool to get to try it out first. I'm really nervous about getting a kitten.
how cool! what a nice test run! if only someone had done that with a baby for me... just kidding. story is an easy baby. that's awesome that you could see your family's reaction before actually committing.
ps jerome = kassie.
Child Abuse Prevention was me :)
Yeah puppies are hard and a lot of work, but they are like babies in that way they require a lot of attention at first for you to teach them. The important thing to remember is positive reinforcement. Dogs are great. I believe they are good for the soul. Go with a dog that doesn't shed tho, that is my suggestion. They require more grooming and baths, but it totally trumps cleaning up hair every single day all day. Trust me on this one.
PS Eric sounds a lot like kory and his love for our dogs. If Kory had the time our dogs would be content to sit by him and be pet all day long.
