Art lessons

I took this idea from Charlotte Mason. I found this calendar at Fred Meyer for $7. Each month has an 8x10 print by Van Gogh. Every few weeks I put a new one on the fridge and we talk about it over lunch for a few days. The first print had a title that Taryn thought was not fitting to the picture, so she created her own version of what would go with that name. The second was a self portrait. Taryn tried to copy it and didn't like the results, so then decided to do a portrait of herself instead. Erik has interesting tid bits each day of things he's noticed in the print, and has even started to notice Van Gogh's style.

That's great! That picture is really pretty. I'd love to hear Erik's commentary on art. Me, Kass, Kyle, Wendy and her kids started an art class and then everyone ditched it after a few weeks.

that's really cool. that was one of my favorite classes in college. learning about different artists and picking up on how they do different things. that's so awesome that you're teaching your kids that while they are young. can i move to washington and have you teach my kids too?

Seriously such an amazing idea. I am always looking for ideas on how to inspire Axel. And once again, you have a great idea :) (He's a little too young) but maybe I will steal that idea and use it on my little guinea pigs (Maddy, Nicolas and sometimes Story)

I have to admit, I'm not a huge Van Gogh fan. But I think the exercise is a magnificent idea.
