Happy Winter Solstice
We had our annual Winter Solstice celebration last night. It was a great night, better than I had hoped for. We used to have pizza because it's shaped like the sun, but none of us can eat pizza anymore, so we each had what we wanted. Erik had german pancakes:
Taryn had Taco Time:
And Vic and I had Chipotle tacos:
The kids each wrote and read a story for the occasion. This was a new idea that I really liked.
And then we opened presents. Taryn was thrilled about new boots she's been coveting for a while:
We got her an american doll this year. My expectations were on the moon for this, so it was a little less then I expected. But I know she loved it and said over and over this was the best winter solstice ever. Her new doll is Amber.
I wasn't sure if Erik would like any of his presents. We had gotten a bunch of little things in hopes of finding something he likes. About a month before Christmas he tells me that he doesn't like star wars anymore and doesn't like bionicles, which is what we had gotten him. But I know he's fickle, and I decided to take a chance anyway (plus I bought them all online and couldn't return them). He was so thrilled with most of his gifts. I was pleasantly surprised. He was really excited about his star wars things and his bionicle, which was an addition that allows him to build a super-bionicle.

Happy solstice! Was the eclipse visible up there? An eclipse on the solstice only happens every 400 years or so.
fun stuff! I didn't know you guys can't eat pizza anymore? That makes me sad for you, because I crave it daily, too bad Kory can't eat it otherwise we would have it for every meal with this pregnancy.
I am super jealous of her American Girl Doll, I always wanted one.
I ended up liking karate kid, but I went into it thinking it would be very very lame, and was expecting to fall asleep, but it wasn't as lame as I anticipated. So in a way I was pleased.
Yay! I'm so glad they liked everything! Her doll is so cute. And I knew Erik would like his stuff. All he played with while I was up there were bionicles. Did you and Vic get anything?
Way to go, I'm happy it turned out to be a good night for you. The kids are so cute and I liked Erik's song.
I'm all about NOT having to cook anything on holidays, as well. On Christmas Eve, eve, I went to Burger king...twice. And was totally caught by the same drive-up guy. I'll know not to paint my nails bright orange when I want to be incognito. Glad Winter Solstice was a happy day.
Winter Solstice is so much better than Summer Solstice. It's such a happier event. Summer solstice feels like mother earth just announced that she has terminal cancer or something.
Anyway, I have a hard time believing that Erik would ever say he doesn't like Star Wars. Because it just seems so implausible.
And I've said it before and I'll say it again, Taryn is really a very pretty girl.
So did you get a big storm on the night of the Solstice? Maggie really wants an American Girl doll. If I did fork out that kind of money for a doll it would have to be for "My Twin" because Heidi used to design for them.
